Canada's Great Big Sea touches on the US

The Celtic-tinged Canadian pop band Great Big Sea [ tickets ] will embark on a short US trip in August in support of its upcoming release, "Fortune's Favour," due in stores June 24. So far, the group plans to visit a half-dozen cities in the eastern US over an eight-day period, beginning Aug. 15 in Buffalo, NY, and more dates are expected. Details are shown below.Born and raised in "the far east of the western world," Great Big Sea has toured internationally, while wearing its hometown of St. John's, Newfoundland, on its sleeve. "Fortune's Favour" was produced by Hawksley Workman."Walk On The Moon," the lead single in Canada, has already hit airwaves; "Love Me Tonight" and "Here and Now" are slated as initial focus tracks for US radio. Great Big Sea scored initial success in Canada with its platinum debut, "Up." The group was subsequently signed to Sire Records, and band members Alan Doyle, Sean McCann and Bob Hallett built upon a strong cult following with the release of their next effort, "Play," which also went platinum in Canada.
